Lamu: With Ruto and Abiy, Dangote lays the first stone of his refinery in Kenya

On September 30, 2026, Dangote, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, and Kenyan President William Ruto laid the foundation stone for a $16 billion refinery in Lamu. The refinery, scheduled to start operations in 2030, will produce 700,000 barrels of oil daily for Kenya and East Africa, aiming to reduce the region's reliance on imported fuels. The project includes a 1,000 MW power plant and is expected to generate over 50,000 jobs, with potential activities in petrochemicals and bitumen.
