Lansdowne intersection to close from Friday for Sky Circle construction

The City of Cape Town will close the intersection of Strandfontein Road, Govan Mbeki Road (M9) and Jan Smuts Drive (M17) from 1 p.m. on Friday, October 23, until 4 a.m. on Monday, October 26, 2026. The 63-hour closure will allow crews to connect ramps to the elevated Sky Circle and install permanent traffic signals at ground level. When the intersection reopens, the temporary traffic circle in place since March 2025 will be replaced by a signal-controlled four-way intersection, while the Sky Circle will be reserved for future MyCiTi express buses. Drivers are advised to avoid the area and use Lansdowne Road or other major surrounding roads.
