Lassa Fever Surge: Lagos raises alarm, launches statewide campaign

The Lagos State Government has issued a public health alert on Lassa fever, reporting over 660 confirmed cases and 167 deaths between January and mid-March 2026. The disease has spread across 22 states and 93 local government areas, with 38 healthcare workers infected, including three doctors who have died. Health Commissioner Akin Abayomi emphasized the need for heightened vigilance and strict infection prevention protocols.
