A fire during a wedding ceremony in Kinshasa on September 4, 2026, resulted in 22 deaths and several serious injuries. In response, Deputy Prime Minister Jacquemain Shabani ordered a systematic check of safety standards in all public gathering places. Provincial governors are also required to implement these checks nationwide to prevent further disasters.
