Le Potentiel: « SNEL: from 700 MW to 390-450 MW, electricity capacity decreases in Kinshasa » | Radio Okapi

SNEL's electricity supply in Kinshasa has decreased from 700 MW to a range of 390-450 MW due to low water levels on the Inkisi rivers and the Congo River, as well as technical shutdowns like the G25 group at Inga. CEO Teddy Lwamba cited seasonal impacts and structural weaknesses, calling for additional infrastructure such as a 75 MVA transformer at Makala. To address the shortfall, a Turkish company, Karpowership, is providing a floating power plant of 134 MW, amid financial constraints and network losses estimated at 30%. The Mwangaza Network urges an emergency plan to mitigate losses and promote energy independence in public buildings.
