Lebanon enters talks with Israel but with no cards to play

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun proposed direct negotiations with Israel to end the violence following a series of Israeli airstrikes that killed over 300 people in Lebanon. Hezbollah, backed by Iran, intensified its attacks in response to the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. A meeting between ambassadors from both countries is scheduled in Washington to discuss a ceasefire, but the Lebanese government appears to have limited influence over Hezbollah.
