LGE2026: More than 60% of local election results captured

South Africa’s Electoral Commission (IEC) expects to finalise the 2026 local election results by the weekend. By 5pm on Thursday, November 5, more than 60% of the 66,073 results had been captured; 40,202 results slips had been scanned and 32,238 independently audited. The Northern Cape led provincial capturing at 87%, while Limpopo had the lowest rate at 23%; 65 of 213 municipalities had completed the processing procedures. IEC chairperson Mosotho Moepya said the figures remain provisional until objections that could materially affect an election are resolved.
