Liberia: 4% Growth, but 20.7% of Population Food Insecure

Liberia's economy grew by 4.0% in 2024, below the projected 5.3%, mainly due to a slowdown in the mining sector. Despite positive growth, over half of the population remains multidimensionally poor, and 20.7% of households face food insecurity. The country heavily relies on importing about 70% of its rice, making it vulnerable to global price fluctuations. With a young population of nearly 70% under 35 years old, the country faces challenges in employment and education, despite the agricultural sector employing over 40% of the workforce.
