Liberia: 'Cybercrime Law Not Meant to Silence Free Speech'

River Gee County Senator Francis Saidy Dopoh II assured that Liberia's new Cybercrime Act, enacted in July 2026, is not intended to silence free speech but to address online threats such as harassment, incitement to violence, fraud, and child exploitation. Approved by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, the law criminalizes cyberstalking, harmful messages, and non-consensual sharing of intimate images. Dopoh emphasized that the legislation does not target legitimate criticism or journalism but aims to protect national security and individuals from dangerous online conduct.
