Liberia: Sen. Konneh Asks U.S. to Sanction Mining Enablers, Warns Liberia At 'Most Dangerous Point'

Gbarpolu County Senator Amara M. Konneh has called on the United States to impose Global Magnitsky sanctions on individuals enabling mining licensing deals in Liberia and moving proceeds into US real estate. He warned that Liberia is at its most dangerous point since the civil war and Ebola epidemic, citing threats of corporate capture of the mining sector and infiltration of state institutions by drug traffickers. He highlighted two drug seizures this year, linked to trafficking networks in Spain, Colombia, Serbia, Croatia, and Ukraine.
