Ligue 1: After prestigious win over FC Les Aigles du Congo, AS Étoile du Congo of Buta targets African competition next season

Newly promoted to the Ligue 1 top flight, Étoile du Congo of Buta, in Orientale Province, is targeting qualification for African club competitions next season. The club began its campaign with a 1-0 win over FC Les Aigles du Congo, runners-up last season and title contenders this year. Confident after its preparations and recruitment, the club’s leaders have placed the team under a coaching staff led by Luende, a former AS V.Club left-back. It remains to be seen whether the newcomer can sustain its form as fixtures come in quick succession, following a league start delayed by more than two months.
