Louga: Duped by AI, she thinks she is speaking to her boss and transfers a large sum

A. Dieng, a 22-year-old manager of a money-transfer outlet in Louga, was sentenced on October 21 to three months in prison for breach of trust after 4.3 million CFA francs belonging to her employer went missing. In court, she said scammers had used AI to clone her boss’s voice and persuade her to move cash funds to her Wave account and then distribute the money among several recipients. The scammers also allegedly told her to delete her call history and transaction receipts. The court found she had acted carelessly by not calling her employer to verify the instructions; the suspected accomplices remain at large.
