DR Congo: North Kivu lawmakers condemn creation of the politico-military Front for the Refoundation of the Nation

National lawmakers elected in North Kivu condemned the creation of the Front for the Refoundation of the Nation (FRN), coordinated by former president Joseph Kabila Kabange. In a statement read by caucus president Safari Nganizi Jacques, they said the initiative threatens peace and stability and undermines diplomatic efforts to end the conflict in the east. The lawmakers reaffirmed their support for President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi’s diplomatic approach and urged the government to strengthen the armed forces and volunteers defending the homeland. They also called on the UN Security Council to fully implement Resolution 2773 and strengthen targeted sanctions against actors destabilizing the country.
