Italian priest quits priesthood, marries Kenyan woman in traditional ceremony

Italian Catholic priest Sandro Ferretto, 55, has left the priesthood to marry Kenyan woman Sharon Jepng’ok in a traditional ceremony in Baringo on September 6, 2026. Ferretto, who served as a priest in the area for 12 years, was married through a Koito ceremony involving dowry negotiations and family blessings. After stepping down from his position in Italy in December 2023, he returned to Kenya to reunite with Jepng’ok, whom he met during his missionary work.
