African Boxing Championship: 22nd Edition Opens in Kinshasa

The 22nd African Amateur Boxing Nations Championship opened on October 22 at the Gymnase jumelé du Stade des Martyrs in Kinshasa. Sports and Leisure Minister Didier Budimbu presided over the opening ceremony; delegations from 29 countries are taking part in the ten-day competition. Congolese boxer Modi Mbonza won his opening bout on points against Mauritius’ Frontin Ivans, while Zambia’s Mwale Mwengo and Namibia’s Haoseb Phillip also won their first fights. Host nation DR Congo hopes to win medals in front of its home crowd.
