Two police officers protecting polio workers in Pakistan shot dead

Gunmen on a motorcycle killed two police officers and wounded a third on Tuesday in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province as the officers travelled to a village to protect polio vaccination teams. No one has claimed responsibility; the shooting came a day after four officers assigned to protect polio workers were abducted and remained missing. The violence coincided with a campaign targeting nearly 24 million children in 97 high-risk districts, while Pakistan has recorded eight polio cases this year.
