November 27 will now be dedicated annually to the fight against child marriage, early marriage, and forced marriage, according to a resolution adopted by the UN General Assembly with the support of 193 member states. This initiative, led by countries such as Sierra Leone, Cape Verde, Costa Rica, and Morocco, aims to raise awareness about the human rights violations these practices represent, disproportionately affecting women and girls. Each year, around 12 million girls are married before the age of 18, and the UN calls for informal unions to be included in prevention policies.
