Mahmoud Abbas postpones legislative elections to September 11, 2027

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas issued a presidential decree to hold presidential and legislative elections simultaneously on September 11, 2027, delaying the legislative vote by nearly a year from the original date of November 28, 2026. The postponement is due to obstacles imposed by Israel, including denied access to East Jerusalem and Gaza, and the need to establish suitable political and security conditions. During a meeting in Cairo, four Palestinian factions, including Fatah and Hamas, agreed to request a delay. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar accused the Palestinian Authority of misleading the international community by planning this postponement.
