Maï-Ndombe: Two killed in attack on cash-in-transit vehicle on RN17

Two people—a police officer and a soldier assigned to protect the convoy—were killed and another person was wounded in an armed attack Sunday evening, October 25, on RN17 in Kutu territory, Maï-Ndombe. Armed men ambushed a SOFIBanque vehicle about six kilometres from Konkia as it carried funds from Isaka to Bandundu-ville, prompting an exchange of gunfire. Kutu civil society president Fidèle Lizorongo said the attackers took no money; the driver, a police officer and a soldier escaped unharmed. The victims’ bodies were taken to the morgue at Bandundu General Referral Hospital, and four occupants of the vehicle survived the attack.

Zimbabwe reported in March 2026 that 15 citizens had died and 66 remained in Russia; Cameroon has confirmed the deaths of 16 citizens. Citing cases in Kenya, Uganda, South Africa, Nigeria and elsewhere, CITE called for coordinated action and noted that Amnesty International had found many such recruitments amounted to human trafficking.
