Mali: Armed men kill more than 40 civilians, members of the Daoussahak community

More than 40 civilians, mostly men, were killed over the weekend in attacks on camps in the Ménaka region of northeastern Mali, according to security and local sources. The attackers reportedly arrived on motorcycles and targeted camps housing mainly members of the Daoussahak community in or near Tinabow and the Tagadayat area, about 50 kilometres from Ménaka. The Daoussahak executive bureau blamed the killings on the Islamic State group. A security source described the massacre as retaliation for recent military operations in the region and attacks by the Movement for the Salvation of Azawad, which is aligned with the government in Bamako.
