Mali: The army abandons positions in the Gao region

The Malian army has abandoned some of its positions in the Gao region, particularly in Labbezanga, following unprecedented attacks by armed groups. These attacks, orchestrated by the Group for Support of Islam and Muslims (JNIM) and the Azawad Liberation Front (FLA), have plunged Mali into increased instability. The security situation is critical, with the city of Kidal once again falling into the hands of armed groups after being under the control of the Malian state since November 2023.
