Man Utd veering towards crisis as Man City cloud hangs over Premier League

Manchester United travel to Leeds for their next match as pressure mounts on manager Michael Carrick after the club’s worst league start in 40 years. Defender Lisandro Martinez criticised the hierarchy for a lack of investment following a 2-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid, though he has also been culpable for goals conceded against Fulham and Tottenham. United have won just one of their first six league games and were knocked out of the League Cup by Brighton. Manchester City are seeking to maintain a perfect league start despite uncertainty over possible sanctions for financial-rule breaches, with Brighton potentially among the beneficiaries.
