Israel has sealed off the occupied West Bank for a week, shutting crossings and tightening restrictions on Palestinian movement due to the Sukkot holiday. The closure, ordered by Defense Minister Israel Katz, will last until Saturday. Palestinians already face severe movement restrictions from hundreds of Israeli checkpoints and barriers, with increased controls at crossings to access holy sites like Al-Aqsa Mosque and Ibrahimi Mosque. The closure also restricts Palestinians with permits to work in Israel and settlements, except for essential workers, amid a significant reduction in workforce since the Gaza war began in October 2023.
