Martinez starts for Man Utd after outburst

Lisandro Martinez was named in Manchester United’s starting line-up against Leeds despite criticising the club’s hierarchy after their 2-0 Champions League defeat to Atletico Madrid. The Argentina defender said manager Michael Carrick had an under-strength squad and that he had expected more summer investment from technical director Jason Wilcox; Martinez later apologised and was reportedly fined. United were seeking only their third win in ten games and sat 14th in the Premier League after five matches without a victory in all competitions. A loss at Leeds would add to the pressure on Carrick before Wednesday’s Champions League trip to Como.
