Mary Habila’s Death: Kaduna Youth Group petitions senate, seeks independent probe

The Southern Kaduna Youth Movement (SKYM) has petitioned the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, seeking an independent investigation into the death of Mary Habila, who died at the residence of the Minister of Works, David Umahi, in Uburu, Ebonyi State. Habila, a physiotherapist with the Federal Ministry of Works, was reportedly found dead under suspicious circumstances in July 2026. The group demands an independent investigative panel with international observers, a comprehensive forensic autopsy, and witness protection. The petition was copied to several local and international organizations, including the Inspector-General of Police, UN Women, Amnesty International, and the European Union.
