Masisi: Cholera kills five in less than a week in Ufamandu 1, amid warning over medicine shortages

In the Ufamandu 1 groupement in Masisi territory, North Kivu, five people have died of cholera in less than a week, while malaria cases have also been reported. Medical sources say several health facilities are operating at reduced capacity or are paralyzed by medicine shortages, undermining patient care. Children under five are among those most vulnerable to serious complications. Residents are calling on authorities and health partners to urgently restock health centres with essential medicines and restore care services.

Cases have been recorded in 66 health zones across eight provinces, while some treatment centres are overwhelmed and remote areas lack medical supplies and health workers. The WHO has announced the launch of the first clinical trial of a vaccine for the strain, for which no vaccine or treatment has been approved.
