Masisi: Remeka and Several Localities in Ufamandu I Recovered by FARDC and Wazalendo

The town of Remeka and several nearby localities in Ufamandu I, Masisi territory (North Kivu), were retaken on Saturday morning, October 3, by FARDC and Wazalendo groups after hours of fighting against AFC/M23 fighters who had occupied the area for a week. A coalition of five Wazalendo groups led by Mutayomba Jams regained control of Remeka, Muhororo, Kamuhobe, and Mihano around 6 a.m., though fighting and gunfire continued in the area. Remeka is a strategic location that has changed hands multiple times recently, highlighting the ongoing intense conflict between the Congolese army, supported by local self-defense groups, and the AFC/M23 rebels.
