Maurice Mbikayi, Congolese artist transforming electronic waste into memory and reflection on the digital world

Born in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Maurice Mbikayi has been developing a multidisciplinary artistic practice since 2010, using electronic waste to explore transformations related to digital technology, such as identity, memory, power, and the environment. He repurposes end-of-life devices like phones and computer components into artworks that address social, economic, and environmental issues, creating 'living archives.' His work draws on African and contemporary references, including fractal systems and the lukasa, to examine memory transmission, conservation, and the relationships between the human body, technology, and identity.
