The Competition Authority of Kenya (CAK) approved Mauritius-based investment firm Monarch Capital Limited's acquisition of a 60% stake in De La Rue Kenya. The approval followed a review under the Competition Act, with Monarch now holding the majority share and the Kenyan government retaining 40% through the National Treasury. De La Rue Kenya, which had been printing Kenyan currency since 1966, suspended banknote printing in January 2023 and lost its main contract to Germany's Giesecke+Devrient in 2024.
