MDCAN Raises Ebola Alarm, Demands PPE and Hospital Isolation Centres
The Medical and Dental Consultants’ Association of Nigeria (MDCAN) urged federal and state governments to step up Ebola surveillance and provide hospitals with protective equipment and isolation facilities after a case was confirmed in the country. It called for emergency operations centres to be activated and for stronger surveillance, contact tracing, laboratory diagnosis and cross-border cooperation. MDCAN also urged training for frontline health workers and adequate hospital supplies, hazard allowances and insurance coverage. The association said Nigeria could contain the disease by applying lessons from its successful response to the 2014 outbreak.
