Medical academics tell FG to resolve welfare dispute in 21 days or face industrial action

The Nigerian Association of Medical and Dental Academics (NAMDA) has issued a 21-day ultimatum to the Federal Government to conclude negotiations on welfare and conditions of service, threatening a nationwide strike that could disrupt medical education. Negotiations have been stalled since April 9, 2026, amid demands for Earned Academic Allowance and Excess Workload Allowance. NAMDA commended Education Minister Tunji Alausa's support for improved remuneration but insists on an enforceable directive for CONMESS salary structure. The association warns that poor pay is accelerating the brain drain of medical academics abroad.
