Medicalized abortion: Pacquis Nganini's bill sparks a clash between deputies

A bill introduced by Deputy Pacquis Nganini Atabakutuba to regulate medicalized abortion in the Republic of Congo is already causing division among lawmakers before its review by the Study Office. Deputy Paul-Gaspard Ngondankoy Nkoy-ea-Loongya strongly opposes the bill, citing concerns about the sanctity of life and suggesting a referendum. The proposal aims to align Congolese law with Article 14 of the Maputo Protocol, which allows abortion in cases of rape, incest, health risks, or severe fetal malformations, to provide legal clarity and reduce unsafe abortions.
