Meet Nigeria’s Adegoke who makes history as first Black chairman of Nottinghamshire County Council

Nigerian-born Councillor Christopher Adegoke was elected Chairman of Nottinghamshire County Council on May 14, 2026, making history as the first Black and minority individual to hold this position since the council's establishment in 1889. Adegoke, born in Kaduna, has over two decades of experience in international education and public administration. Dr. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, praised this achievement as a proud moment for Nigeria.
