The White House says US First Lady Melania Trump secured a localized ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine in Oleshky, a southern Ukrainian city occupied by Russia since February 2022. Neither Moscow nor Kyiv had confirmed the announcement on Friday. Trump said her representatives worked with both countries’ leadership to arrange humanitarian access and evacuations, and that remaining residents who wish to leave could travel to their preferred destination in Russia or Ukraine. The city had 24,000 residents before the war; those who remain face food and medical shortages and regular military attacks.
