The National Population Commission (NPC) of Nigeria disclosed that despite an estimated five million annual births, only 57% of births and less than 20% of deaths are registered. NPC Chairman Dr. Aminu Yusuf announced the launch of the Fully Electronic Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (E-CRVS) system and the VitalReg digital platform on July 1, 2026, aiming to improve registration and data integrity. The NPC currently operates 4,011 registration centers and plans to increase to about 8,000 to enhance access. The VitalReg platform provides 24/7 online access, reduces paperwork, and integrates with other government digital identity systems.
