Migrants: Belgium Condemned for Ignoring Its Own Courts

The European Court of Human Rights condemned Belgium for allowing four asylum seekers from Angola, Guinea, China, and Cameroon to live on the streets for several months, despite court orders for their accommodation. The judges found violations of Articles 3 and 6 of the Convention, and Belgium must pay damages ranging from €5,070 to €12,350 to each claimant. The Court also noted that the fines imposed on Belgium had not been settled, dismissing the Belgian state's force majeure argument.
