Migrants in hiding as Mauritania pushbacks drastically cut Europe arrivals

Francina, a 23-year-old from the Republic of Congo, fled her country after her parents were killed and found refuge in Mauritania in 2023. However, she and other migrants are now hiding for fear of being arrested and deported by police targeting those who look like migrants. Human rights groups are concerned about the legality of these arrests and forced deportations, accusing authorities of complicating the process of obtaining legal papers.
