Millions fleeing Sudan’s war risk losing shelter as funds run low, UN warns

In Sudan, 15.4 million people urgently need emergency shelter and household items, but funding shortages mean humanitarian agencies can assist only about 10 percent of them. So far, 936,000 people have received aid, according to a joint statement from the UN refugee agency and the International Organization for Migration, which called for predictable and flexible funding. Since war began between Sudan’s army and the Rapid Support Forces in 2023, 8.6 million people have been displaced inside the country and more than 4.6 million have fled abroad. More than 5.2 million people have returned to their areas of origin, often finding homes, infrastructure and basic services destroyed.
