Minerals in Africa: Russia wants to participate in a major project in Guinea

On September 17, 2026, Mamadi Doumbouya met with a delegation from Rusal, led by Russian ambassador Alexey Popov, to discuss the Simandou 2040 program and local transformation of Guinea's mineral resources. The mining sector accounts for nearly 30% of Guinea's GDP and 93% of its exports. Guinean authorities aim to increase the added value of their resources, with three alumina refineries under construction and one gold refinery completed.
