Mining: revelations about Australian company Tusker’s acquisition of two mining firms operating in Cameroon

Australian mining group Tusker Minerals, formerly DY6 Metals, acquired 100% of Aardvark Minerals Pty Ltd and EKOM Metals Pty Ltd from Gondwana Capital in June 2025. Announced on April 24 and completed on June 13 after DY6 shareholders approved the deal, the acquisition gave Tusker access to rutile exploration projects held by Rhino Resources and Gorilla Mining in Cameroon. Rhino Resources holds rights to the Douala Basin project, covering 2,580 square kilometres and comprising three granted exploration permits and three permit applications. Clifford Fitzhenry, a Gondwana Capital director who was a technical consultant to DY6 at the time, became Tusker’s managing director on July 14, 2025.

Momodu urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to publish the voters’ register, contrasting the APC’s claimed 12 million members with 103 million registered voters. He said politically unaffiliated voters—the “floaters party”—could influence the 2027 presidential election.

US political advisory and lobbying firm Von Batten-Montague-York says it filed a FOIA request with the US State Department on Thursday for the $700 billion mining memorandum of understanding signed by Nigeria and the United States, along with records of its negotiations. The firm says it acted because President Bola Tinubu has not disclosed the deal’s details and Nigerians are demanding transparency about their natural resources. It supports US access to critical minerals but says protections for affected communities are needed, and it plans to publish the documents if it receives them. Nigeria’s Presidency had not responded to the filing at the time of publication.
