Mitoma fails to make Japan’s 2026 World Cup squad due to hamstring injury

Brighton winger Kaoru Mitoma has been left out of Japan’s World Cup 2026 squad due to a hamstring injury sustained during a match against Wolves. Coach Hajime Moriyasu stated it would be difficult for Mitoma to regain fitness during the tournament. Japan will face the Netherlands, Sweden, and Tunisia in Group F, starting their campaign on June 14 in Arlington, Texas.
