Mobile Phones: Customs Revenue Exceeds 1.8 Billion FCFA in Five Months, Compared to 400 Million a Year Earlier

From April 1 to early September 2026, Cameroonian customs collected over 1.8 billion FCFA in duties and taxes on imported mobile phones, according to the General Directorate of Customs. This amount marks a significant increase from the 400 million FCFA collected the previous year. Approximately 386,000 phones have been declared since the implementation of a new customs clearance mechanism, which requires the registration of IMEI numbers in the CAMCIS system.
