More than 100,000 march in Uvira to demand peace in eastern DR Congo

According to the South Kivu governor, more than 100,000 people took part in a peaceful march in Uvira on November 3, 2026, to denounce the war in eastern DR Congo and demand a return to peace. Led by Jean-Jacques Purusi, the march went from Maison Orange to the Monument roundabout; demonstrators condemned violence attributed to the Front for the Refoundation of the Nation (FRN), which they accuse of receiving Rwandan support. Potien Musomerwa, head of BRCP RDC, called for full implementation of UN Security Council resolutions, while Purusi urged residents of occupied territories to continue their resistance. Similar demonstrations took place in Bunyakiri, Fizi, and Baraka, and the march slowed economic and social activity in Uvira.
