More than 2,000 measles cases in children in Punia territory

Since June 2026, Punia territory (Maniema) has been experiencing a measles outbreak. Over 2,089 cases have been recorded, and 21 children under five have died at the General Referral Hospital, according to Dr. Amisi Makutano. In response, an integrated vaccination campaign against measles, rubella, and polio is planned, targeting children aged 6 months to 15 years. The doctor urges parents to avoid self-medication.
