More than 40 minors freed from Angenga prison under “Zero Children in Prison” operation

More than 40 minors held alongside adults were released on Friday, October 30, from Angenga Central Prison in Gemena, in South-Ubangi province. The “Zero Children in Prison” operation, launched by provincial authorities with UNICEF’s support, aims to protect children’s rights, help them return to their families and reduce prison overcrowding. Acting Governor Jean-René Galekwa launched the initiative after visiting the prison, and provincial Justice Minister Emmanuel Kpedo Togo said it would also support the minors’ reintegration into society. Authorities plan to gradually extend the operation to other territories in South-Ubangi.

It links the incident to other alleged intimidation targeting its women supporters, offices, and campaign activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
