More than a dozen people killed in attacks attributed to CODECO in Djugu

At least a dozen people were killed on Sunday, October 25, in attacks attributed to CODECO militiamen in several localities in Djugu territory, Ituri. The violence began in Muganga, on the shores of Lake Albert, where attackers reportedly killed residents and looted livestock, solar panels and roofing sheets before spreading to Mbuza, Depa and Tsonga. Provincial deputy Moïse Uzunga Wathum gave a provisional toll of more than a dozen civilians killed; the victims included an FARDC commander and a three-year-old child. The attacks triggered further displacement toward neighboring Mahagi territory, and the elected official called for a stronger military presence to protect civilians.
