Moroccan Legislative Elections: Voters Praise the Vote Despite High Abstention

Following the Wednesday legislative elections in Morocco, the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM) secured 97 seats in the House of Representatives, ahead of the National Rally of Independents (RNI) with 66 seats and Istiqlal with 65 seats. The Justice and Development Party (PJD), an opposition Islamist party, made significant gains with 54 seats, up from 13 in 2021. Voter turnout was 38%, the lowest since 2007, with about 16 million registered voters, especially low youth participation amid unemployment and economic challenges.
