Morocco: Ayoub Oufkir’s call-up “for security” raises questions

Mohamed Ouahbi has called up 20-year-old AZ Alkmaar winger Ayoub Oufkir for Morocco’s match against Niger, surprising some Moroccan supporters. Oufkir has scored twice in ten Eredivisie appearances and could also represent the Netherlands, prompting speculation that Morocco wants to avoid a repeat of the Ebnoutalib case, in which Germany secured the young forward. Ouahbi defended the selection by describing Oufkir as dynamic, fast and technical, with the ability to beat opponents and deliver good crosses. Competition in attack is also affected by injuries and limited playing time for several players.
