Morocco: Museum of Moroccan Jewish Culture opens in Fez

The Museum of Moroccan Jewish Culture has opened in Fez’s former Jewish quarter to preserve Judeo-Moroccan heritage and pass it on to younger generations. Its permanent exhibition traces more than 2,500 years of Jewish presence in Morocco and explores the community’s social and institutional life, including synagogues, Hebrew schools and rabbinical courts. The collections include traditional clothing, jewelry, musical instruments, artworks, archives and ancient manuscripts. Anthropologist Faouzi Skali says Jewish history—including the arrival of Sephardic Jews after the Spanish Reconquista and Judaism’s presence in the Amazigh world—helped shape Moroccan identity.
