Morocco-Spain Tunnel: Why 2026 is a Pivotal Year for the Project

The Spanish government has allocated €1.73 million for the Spanish Society for Fixed Communication Studies across the Strait of Gibraltar (SECEGSA) in 2026, bringing the total to €9.61 million since 2022. SECEGSA has tasked Ineco with finalizing a preliminary project for the tunnel, expected to be delivered by August 2026. The project envisions a 65-kilometer railway tunnel, with the estimated cost for the Spanish section exceeding €8.5 billion and a projected operational date between 2035 and 2040.
